How to read the GBP/USD chart
The default candlestick view shows the open, high, low and close for each period. Green (or hollow) candles mean the rate finished higher than it opened; red (or filled) candles mean it finished lower. Use the timeframe controls to move from intraday to daily, weekly and monthly views — shorter timeframes show noise, longer ones show the trend.
Two reference points matter most for Cable. First, the interest-rate gap between the Bank of England and the Federal Reserve: when UK rates rise relative to US rates, sterling tends to firm, and vice-versa. Second, risk sentiment: the US dollar is the global safe haven, so GBP/USD often falls during market stress even when nothing UK-specific has changed.
